FRANK FILMS


John Choi & Nicolina Lanni are award-winning documentary filmmakers. They are the co-founders of Frank Films. Their first documentary LOST & FOUND (2016) toured the world and aired across 4 continents. LOST & FOUND was awarded The Hot Docs Ted Rogers Fund as well as was chosen to pitch at the prestigious Hot Docs Forum. THE ELEVEN (2017) a 6-part documentary series for A&E garnered them a Canadian Society of Cinematography award in 2018 for Best Cinematography in Docu-drama. SPACEMEN is their latest feature documentary set to air on CBC in 2019. 

Their film careers span over twenty years in the industry and include work on Hollywood scripted features, commercials & broadcast series both in Canada and the US. Nicolina has a background in Journalism with a master’s degree from Carleton University and John began his career as a cinematographer with a BFA from York University.

John Choi is a Toronto based filmmaker. His career started both in New York and Los Angeles working on studio and independent narrative feature films. He has emerged as a Producer, Director & Director of Photography working on documentaries, commercials, music videos and television series. He was nominated for a Gemini Award in 2011 and awarded the 2018 CSC Award for Best DocuDrama. John is the co-founder of FRANK FILMS.

She is also the co-founder of Film Fatales Toronto a global collective of female filmmakers who meet monthly to help foster more work by and about women.
